About 580 Nautical Miles covered in 4,5 days. Not bad.
We are now in Cook's Harbour - the very northwesternmost tip of Newfoundland.
Cook's Harbour is a small 200 people fishing community that is sitting beautifully on top of NFL by the top entrence to the Strait of Belle Isle.
We chose this harbour because it was the first we got to on the Northern NFL coast and we did not know about facilities near Meadows.
There is no mobile phone service in Cook's Harbour - only internet at the local cafe.
From Halifax to here we have had fog at least 5 hours a day on average - three big rainstorms - one with dangerous lighting - dolphins - whales and today: Icebergs!
Lots of them.
The Canadian weather service are forcasting between 50 and 100 icebergs in the Strait.
At the southern mouth of The the Strait of Belle Isle between Labrador and Newfoundland we had soft winds and about 10C in the water. Then suddenly we measured 3,5C.
We estimated the biggest Iceberg to be about 500 meter long - visible height 3-4 meter. That translates to 30 - 40 meter thick monster 500 meter long.
But the dangours ones are the small ones that are difficult to spot.
The next few days we will make our way north along the Labrador coast to Red point - during daylight and hopefully without much fog.
We are going to sail slow enough for us to spot the ice in good time.
A good thing with the icebergs is that they do not come after you - like big ships do.
There is a strom raging in the Labrador sea - and we want it to go away before we start our crossing to Greenland - probably Saturday or Sunday.
Now - the local bar is closing!
Bye for now.
