Kong Sverre Sigurdsson's Birthplace Kirkjubøur!

On this journey I have visited Leif Eiriksson's Newfoundland Meadows settlement - Eirik Raudes southern Greenland - the Thingvoll where Eirik Raude may have been sentenced to exile. The Viking circle is complete after visiting Kirkjubøur - where King Sverre Sigurdsson was born and raised around 1150.
We were welcomed by Sølva - 16th generation at Kirkjubøargarður (Kongs-gården) - and she gave us a short but very impressive and powerful lecture on the history of the village.
From 1111 Færøyene was a bishopric led by the Bishop in Kirkjubøur. The ruins there is from Magnuskatedralen - the cathedral from around 1300!
The smaller Ólavskirkjan is from around 1200 - is the oldest church still in use today.
Sølva showed us Roykstova - where King Sverre prominently is place overseeing the large dining table.
There is a cave up in the hills over Kirkjubøur - marked by a red circle: Sverre's birthplace!

Kirkjubøargarður is a must for anyone visiting Færøyene.
